• DESCRIPTION:

We’ll explore the fun of poetry: how to shape words on the page to make pleasing sounds, to create dynamic images, to discover powerful metaphors that surprise and delight. We’ll write contemporary poems that acknowledge our debt to the history of the genre in form and content, and push on to experiment with our own sensibilities. The class will be conducted in a supportive workshop format with student work the prime focus. We’ll explore poetry’s connection to the other arts and its relevance to our own sense of place. Be prepared to take field trips to campus location for poetry readings, prairie natural history, art exhibits, theatrical productions and music recitals. All locations are handicapped accessible.
